Artistic Moment of the Week: if you knew what it meant to me.
I just found her blog this week, and her Flickr images are absolutely gorgeous. This one stole my heart with the abandoned barn and the appropriate (for me) caption. Definitely "Artistic Moment of the Week" worthy.

My New Grazing Pen.
I still need to paint the exposed wood, but I think it is lovely. It has a chain-link bottom on it, so hopefully I don't have to worry about rabbits digging out or predators digging in. My husband built it from scratch, so I'm really impressed.
It has wheels that come down when you move it, and then go up when you park it. You can see my other makeshift grazing pens in the background. My young does are in the newest pen, I've got a six-month old buck in the white pen and then three young bucks in the short, long pen. All the boys are for sale if you're interested.
The girls seem to like it. They've been staying in it since Tuesday morning. I don't leave the others out at night because their pens don't have bottoms on them. No reason to risk it.

Anybody Want To Go On A Roadtrip?
I want to go to Gualala, California. There is a place called "Mar Vista Cottages" that I want to visit. Right by the ocean this place is a dream. They have a garden and chickens, so the guests get fresh eggs and vegetables at their doorstep. How neat is that? More than anything I'd like to go in order to ask them a million questions. I'd really like to have a farm-stay program at my house someday, and they would make a good template to mimic.

I found this place via books.google.com (I know I'm always finding stuff there, but it's amazing). I was looking up gardening articles and this one popped up. It's a great little write up about the unique cottage inn. So pretty, and it's quite reasonable on the prices too. So, yeah, if you want to go...just hint it to me, and I'm sure Joelee and I can pack our bags in a hurried manner.
Seeds Started, Grazing Pen Completed.
Image via "Google" whilst searching "Victory Gardens."
I think "Victory Gardens" should make a comeback. Not just because I'm obsessed with what goes into my food, but because as a nation we are struggling. I have gotten most of my seeds started for the year. Lots of dry beans, a few flowers, green beans, peas, plus I'll plant some tomatoes, onions, carrots, broccoli, spinach, and a few other things later today.
My absolutely amazing husband built me an immaculate grazing pen. I just wanted a rabbit grazing pen with a bottom on it so that I don't have to worry about them digging out. He went above and beyond that. This sucker has wheels, fancy doors, mechanisms--crazy engineering genius. My husband is wonderful...now he just has to make four more so that I can put all my does in them for the summer. I'll post some photos when it's not raining. It is so neat.
PS--I've only got 3 buck kits left to sell if anybody wants them...ten dollars a piece. Two dark gray with dark points and 1 white with dark points and red eyes. Plus, a six-month old buck who is cream with dark points and red eyes. He'd make a wonderful pet. I'm keeping his sisters for does, so I need an unrelated buck and can't keep him.

Artistic Moment of the Week: House; Houston, Texas.
Rabbits for Sale.
My kits are six weeks old, so I separated them from the doe this morning (much to her relief I do believe). She'd already weaned them, and they were just bugging her to pieces. Now they are for sale. Ten dollars a piece. Lots of pretty colors (whites with darker points and red eyes, three shades of gray, and black). They've been raised on Momma's milk, fresh grass, alfalfa pellets, and sunshine. If you're interested just send me an email. We're located near Worthington, Indiana which is about an hour east of Terre Haute, or forty minutes west of Bloomington. Perfect pet, but are also a nice butcher-size rabbit when they reach about three to four months old. Get yourself a lagomorph just in time for Easter.

Craigslist Cravings: More Piglets.
Yeah, I've got pigs on the brain here lately. I'd love to raise a couple, but it's going to be a few years before that becomes a reality. When I do, I'm going to create a cross-bred that (a) works great on pasture, (b) is un-aggressive, (c) is wildly colored (just because), (d) has delicious meat quality, (e) can handle farrowing/raising piglets well. These piglets were in Ames, IA, and appear to have a few of the qualities listed. Sigh...wonder when I'll get to start my pig raising experiments.
